Manchester midfielder Yaya Touré reactivated his Twitter account on Monday after a five month absence. After a few hours, the police have been called to investigate claims that the footballer was racially abused.
It was the anti-discrimination group Kick It Out that informed the police. The association’s spokesperson said on BBC Sport “we are disturbed by the fact that someone can be treated this way”.
This incident shows that the problems of racism affect the world of sports and particularly soccer. It is the first time Yaya Touré has been the target of racist abuse. Last year, the International Ivory Coast was subjected to racist songs during Manchester City’s Champions League game at CSKA Moscow in Russia.
The survey is conducted by the authorities and the English Football, the player decided not to respond to these attacks.
