This morning, Fnac, the French specialist in cultural and hi-tech products distribution, and Darty, a French company of household electrical and media products, found an agreement on their future merger.
At the beginning, Fnac proposed to buy 100 % of Darty’s capital by exchange of one share against 39. Yesterday Fnac raised the value of its offer.
Several trade unions in both companies have announced today their worries about the method
s of the merger. « it’s terrible, socially, it is gonna be a disaster,» said Darty’s major trade union CFDT’s leader to AFP.
Concretely, the unionists fear that some jobs can be lost because of this merger.
According to Catherine Gaigne, delegate of South Fnac, Alexandre Bompard, the CEO of Fnac, is buying himself a « toy ».
Now, a trade union council is being prepared at Fnac, as explained Catherine Gaigne. She is very disappointed to have discovered this merger only in the French press.
