In a recent turn of events, the entire F.B.I. team in charge of investigating Mr. Garner’s death were replaced by agents exterior to New York as well as the Brooklyn based prosecutors.
There is much speculation over this surprise move by the state department, especially following reports that FBI officials refused to press charges against Mr. Pantaleo that the Civil Rights Division at the Justice Department in Washington recommended. As of now, no comments have been made by either the Justice Department or the F.B.I.
Since his death in 2014, the video supposedly proving his death sparked protests around the United States all-while being followed by other fatal police shootings of african-americans.
The grand jury’s decision not to indict Officer Pantaleo just 2 months Mr. Garner’s death in 2014 sparked nation-wide protests in the United-States and reactions from politicians such as Barack Obama, former president George W. Bush and many top-tier athletes and artists.
