The evacuation began on Monday, October 24. The French government officially finished dismantling the infamous “Jungle” migrant camp in the French city of Calais. According to the government, about 6,000 persons were sheltered. Some of them decided to join Paris. Is it the beginning of a new jungle ?
The situation is complicated in Northern Paris, especially in the district of Place Stalingrad, where flows of migrants decided to settle. 3,000 migrants are already present in this area, which represents 50% increase in just two days.
Humanitarian project of Anne Hidalgo, the Mayor of Paris, should open at Porte de la Chapelle (18th area of Paris) soon. Indeed, a second center will be open for families, women and children isolated in the southeast of the capital, while the north of Paris will be reserved only for men. The first camp will include 400 beds at the opening with a capacity that will be quickly increased to 600. After the dismantling of the Calais jungle, Stalingrad will be the biggest refugee camp in France, with more than 1,500 attendees.
For the moment, migrants are forced to sleep on the floor, in miserable conditions without hygiene, until the camps open their doors. They can count on the help of some residents to get warm clothes and some food.
