Snowden, the new masterpiece of Oliver Stone is now in theaters and gives a great approach of the life of the whistleblower who leaked confidential information about his governement.
Snowden, casting Joseph Gordon Lewit as main character; deals with the revelations of Edward Snowden, a former CIA and NSA employee who revealed several classified pieces of information about how the governement spies and keeps an eye or an ear on everything. After his failure in shaping the project around Martin Luther King, Oliver Stone takes back the camera to shoot a movie with a political approach about the whistleblower.
After his release on 2nd of November, Snowden quickly conquered the public opinion in the US, as well as in France where the reviews are mainly positive, giving credits to the director : “It somehow manages to make a fascinating, utterly contemporary narrative feel like old news,” says Leah Greenblatt in Entertainment Weekly . Even though some critics are negative, the movie has aroused the curiousity of all.
Edward Snowden showed up for the first time in 2013 when he published, via Internet, classified information about spying programs secretly built up by the NSA. His main goal is to inform and warn American citizens about how intrusive the goverment is or could be, and make them aware of the danger. In fact, Snowden complains against such abusive ways, which in reality are only permitted when it concerns the national security.
