The New York City Marathon

The New York City Marathon took place on Sunday 6th November. It is one of the biggest marathons of the world, reuniting nearly 50,000 runners from all corners of the world and 2 million of spectators who came to encourage the participants.  The course is about 26 miles long from Staten Island to Central Park passing by Brooklyn, the Queens, the Bronx and Manhattan.

Ghirmay Ghebreslassie 20 years (an Eritrean) who won the race after 2 hours 7 minutes and 51 seconds, is the youngest winner of the New York marathon; the female winner is the Kenyan Mary Keitany who won for the third time after 2 hours, 24 minutes and 26 seconds.

The first marathon of New York started in 1970 with only 127 runners who paid 1$ for the inscription. Today this event is very important; it is a part of the World Marathon Majors gathering the marathon of Berlin, Boston, Chicago, London, Tokyo and New York. The marathon of New York takes place each first Sunday of November. It is retransmitted live on NBC and followed by almost 300 million viewers.
