Vendée Globe: Tanguy De Lamotte abandons the race

After 9 days of racing it is the first of the race to announce its abandonment in the Vendée Globe competition. Tanguy De Lamotte all alone and without stopovers he goes to the Sable d’Olonne.  

Tanguy  De Lamotte will not be able to continue the adventure. But it is with difficulty that he must accept his fate. Indeed the mast of his boat his broken. ” The mast is very damaged much more than we thought. When the masthead has been pulled out, the halyards has cut the mast of both sides, so it can at any time open in two” said De Lamotte joined by PC COURSE.  It also says “The damage is too serious to consider going round the world , but it is still allows me to bring my boat home”.

The Vendée Globe still  continues with for the 28 skippers still in the races. The brattish Alex Thompson leads after getting out of the “pot au noir”. The first monohulls could reach the equators as of this evening around 9 PM ( French time ). Behind Vincent Riou and Armel Le Cleach compete for the second place and sail at sixth. The y should pass the Equator at night.
