Nathalie Kosciusko-Morizet wants a “real perpetuity” for terrorists

Posted on

It’s such a rare thing : a terrorist has been arrested, alive. That allowed politicians to give their minds on the issue of how we should punish terrorists. The least we can say is that Nathalie Kosciusko-Morizet, (called “NKM” in her own country), has a strong opinion on the subject.

Six days after the arrest of Salah Abdeslam, three days after the Brussels attacks, the question of punishment for terrorists appears. For the right-wing politician, “There is no solution today  to guarantee that men like Salah Abdeslam will effectively spend the rest of their lives in jail”. Even Manuel Valls, the French prime minister, declared himself open to discuss possibility of adopting new laws in those cases.

However, the real life imprisonment that NKM asks for has already been voted by the national Assembly, just a few days ago (on the 8th of March of this year). Adopted by the majority, the 4th article gives the possibility to overpass, for terrorists, the maximal penalty, that is 30 years of jail. The text now needs the agreement of the Senate.

Third charge in the death of the CEO of Total

The Russian investigators process this Friday a third charge for the disrespect of the security rules in the case of the deadly plane accident of the chairman of the group Total, Christophe de Margerie in Moscow. This information comes from the Russian investigative committee.

Sans titreThe chief engineer, Vladimir Ledeniov was present in the exact moment of the accident, manager of the maintenance team of the landing area. This man, ” Was indicted today on charges of violation of safety rules causing death by negligence of at least two persons,” according to the committee. He is currently in jail.

The indictment of Mr. Ledeniov follows those of the air traffic controller Alexander Krouglov and the pointer of sky Svetlana Krivsoune. So today, the investigator favours the idea whereas the air controllers are responsible for the death of the two pilots, a stewardess and Christophe de Margerie. If the researchers show the guilt of these three suspects, they risk up to five years behind the bars.

The CEO of Total, Christophe de Margerie, is dead due to the crash of his own plane just after the taking off; the Falcon (plane) hit a snowplow and explosed just after at the airport of Moscow. De Margerie’s funerals was held on Monday in Paris, the French president was present in the church Sainte-Suplice.

French police is still on high alert and may only be witnessing the beginning of a larger trend, especially three days before Halloween. The French court of Montpellier has sentenced the eighteen-year-old teenager to jail for attacking a passer with a knife thirty times. The delinquent then intended to racket the victim. He admitted that he was drunk. A fact that surely had influenced his sentence to jail.

The sentence follows a wave of incidents featuring people dressed as clowns that has been sweeping France since early October. Complaints have poured in recently over “armed clowns” wreaking havoc in various parts of the country – some carrying pistols, knives or baseball bats – and police have detained several people over the violent trend. First seen in the United-States, the phenomenon has finally popped up in France earlier this month. Fourteen armed teens dressed as clowns have been arrested and temporarily held by the police this Saturday in France.
