PSG-Man U: The infirmary fills up

Posted on

Calvary continues and the infirmary fills for the PSG. After Neymar, it is Edinson Cavani and Thomas Meunier who will be unavailable for the shock against Manchester United.

The Uruguayan “Matador” was to secure Paris offensive on Tuesday, February 12 with Kylian Mbappé and Angel Di Maria at Old Trafford, in a role of finisher. Cavani absent, it is the best Parisian scorer of early 2019 (7 goals) that disappears.

Yesterday, Edinson Cavani was injured during the match.

The possible substituts?

Replacement options are rare. There is Eric-Maxim Choupo-Moting, but the Cameroonian, author of a small goal in L1 who played only 50 minutes in the Champions League this season, disappoints at every appearance. Another solution would be to put Julian Draxler in the middle in an offensive task, in support of Mbappé, only in point.

It’s as if the spell is hounding

As if that was not enough, the PSG will also have to do without its right side Thomas Meunier, injured against Bordeaux on Saturday. The Belgian international needs to “rest until the next neurological inspection at the end of the week,” said the club Sunday.

FOOTBALL: For the PSG, it’s now or never

The Paris Saint-Germain will confront Barcelona during the final 8th of the Champions League this Tuesday. Eliminated by the Spanish team three times over four years in this competition, the French club now has the opportunity to surprise us.

At 8:45 pm, the whole football planet will be watching PSG-Barcelona. The first match of this showdown will be crucial for the rest of the competition. At the Parc des Princes in Paris tonight, Unai Emery’s men are planning to surprise us. Deprived of Thiago Silva, the defense of the PSG are expected to encounter some difficulties against what is called “the MSN” (Messi, Suarez, Neymar).

Better organized than last year with their new coach, the Parisians still have their chances. If some interrogations remain concerning the defense of the PSG, the best striker of Europe, Edinson Cavani, will certainly be there. Lionel Messi, the winner of five Golden Balls, will be the most dangerous enemy this Tuesday. According to Unai Emery, “we will prepare the match against Barca knowing that both teams are very good,” referring to the fact that Paris won three times in a row in the French Championship.

Tonight’s match will be really important for the PSG and especially for the coach of the French club. In case of underperformance, the Spanish coach won’t have any other chances. With the high objectives of Nasser Al-Khelaïfi, the boss of the club, Unay Emery cannot make any mistakes. The PSG will need its supporters tonight if they want to win against Barcelona and some of the best attackers in the world.

Football: Advantage for Manchester City

Posted on Updated on

Manchester City earned a 2-2 draw at Paris Saint Germain in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final on Wednesday April 6th.

For the first time in its history PSG Qatari Version approached a quarter-final of the Champions League as a favorite. However, Laurent Blanc’s men have failed to assume this status, delivering a mediocre game and conceding a logical draw (2-2) against their opponent, Manchester City, though widely in scope.

City has the edge after an entertaining, topsy-turvy game featuring parts of top play and a lot of slapdash defending. It wasn’t boring, and it’s far from over. Fernandinho and Fernando, very complementary, were very good in midfield, and De Bruyne is a lovely player. He will be even fitter for the second leg, and Touré, Sterling and Verratti might be back too so there’s still lots to look forward to in this tie. Matuidi and David Luiz will be following it on an MBM. You can too.

PSG Real: The French deserved better

The PSG dominated the lawn of Bernabeu Santiago but did not succeed to concretize this domination.

Edinson Cavani did not manage to find the weakness in the defense of Madrid yesterday evening
Edinson Cavani did not manage to find the weakness in the defense of Madrid yesterday evening

The Parisian aggressors used defenders from Madrid without ever finding any weakness of their opponents. Adrien Rabiot strucks a post, Edinson Cavani had a shot cleared off the line and Angel Di Maria hit the bar with the 89th-minute free-kick as Real hung on. The ownership of the ball was 56 percent in favor of the PSG in first half. Nevertheless, the Real Madrid took the advantage. Nacho Fernandez  scored just two minutes before halftime. The PSG had a lack of realism, as Edinson Cavani had less success yesterday evening. This defeat marks a stop in the ambitious project of the PSG because some players found difficulties during the match.

Kevin Trapp not at his best

The guardian of the PSG has clearly a big share of responsibility in the defeat of the club  yesterday evening. The German player made some first-class moves, like in the 81st minute on this Tony Kroos beautiful strike. Nevertheless we shall especially remember his big error on the only purpose of the match which gave the victory to the Real Madrid. The PSG had recruited him to progress and get closer to the biggest world clubs. From the beginning of the season Kevin Trapp took  his place and left Salvatore Sirigu on the bench. A debatable choice in view of Kevin Trapp’s performances.
